Miracles do happen

A little motivation is all we need in life! Here are the stories of two people who faced certain death but made a miraculous recovery that we all can relate to.

We all know someone who has been involved in an accident or recently been diagnosed with a life-threatening disease, but if you feel there is no hope, then this is for you …

I recently came across a motivational article entitled 10 Incredible Patient Recoveries That Went Against All Odds by Listverse – a website that shares fascinating, obscure and bizarre facts ranging from general knowledge, entertainment and health to crime and more every-day occurrences, which I think many can relate to.

As they put it, “… the following are people who faced certain death … but they all made a miraculous recovery.”

My point is, miracles do happen.

In 2006, a star football player’s near perfect life took a horrific turn when he took a swim in the ocean. He was apparently about to strike a big deal in the American NFL, but on the day of the swim, he dived into the ocean and “his head struck a sandbar, damaging his spinal cord and rendering him instantly paralysed”. His family was told he would never walk again, but after spending months in the ICU and almost losing his life twice while battling pneumonia, giving up on love and telling his girlfriend to leave him behind and carry on with her life (but she stood by him through the difficult time) as well as being told that he would never walk again, the man stood up five years later, without a walker.

According to Listverse, “The entire experience inspired the couple to start a non-profit rehab centre to ensure others in his situation could also benefit from loco-motor training. And, while still on his road to recovery, the couple got married after realising there was nothing they couldn’t face together”.

Then, in 2011, a youngster was involved in a horrific car accident involving five vehicles. The vehicle he was travelling in allegedly struck a light pole and flipped sideways. The youngster was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition, having sustained two broken legs, a broken left hand and severe brain injuries. He was placed on life support. But, after surgery on his brain, the youngster suffered a stroke. The hospital wanted to switch off the machines that were keeping him alive, but his neurosurgeon never gave up and decided to keep him on life support a while longer and requested a new MRI scan. Miraculously, just two months later, he could walk with the aid of a walker and was able to speak almost normally again. He does not, however, remember anything about the accident that almost claimed his life.
