A miraculous Easter escape!

At least three people made a miraculous escaped following a two vehicle crash over Easter.

On Thursday, 29 March, at about 3.30pm, a light motor vehicle and a bakkie collided, and two men in their 20s miraculously escaped death.

The bakkie that the two men were travelling in, was proceeding along Homestead Avenue, towards Roodepoort, when the driver of the light vehicle decided to turn and cross the street.

According to most eyewitnesses, the man in the light motor vehicle did not stop, causing the bakkie driver to swerve out. The bakkie then overturned, landing on its roof. The two men in the bakkie were able to climb out, having only sustained minor injuries.

ER24 ambulance services took the driver of the bakkie to Robinson Private Hospital for observation. The driver of the other vehicle, who spoke to theHerald, seemed to be in shock, but was in a stable condition. One paramedic said he should go for X-rays to determine his injuries, if any.

The other vehicle involved in the accident.

Several emergency services were on the scene, among them QRS, ER24, Randfontein Fire Department, Rand West Traffic Department, Help24, a Public Safety officer and the West Rand Fire and Rescue department.

A resident who spoke to the Herald said the palm trees on the island in the middle of the road remain a problem, and it is still difficult to see oncoming vehicles. The Herald recently published an article about the palm trees, which were subsequently cut back, but they seem to remain a problem.
