Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, said those arrested committed crimes including driving under the influence of liquor, being in possession of dangerous weapons and possession of unlicensed firearms, while a total of 42 suspects were arrested for being possession of drugs or dealing in drugs alone.
“Compliance inspections in liquor stores and second-hand goods premises also resulted in fines being issued. A total of 31 fines were issued for non-compliance with the Act regulating these industries,” Ernst said.
Brigadier Mashole Manamela, the Randfontein Police station commander, commended the members who are continuously addressing these crimes which are in the end contributing factors in other crimes.
“We believe that prevention is better than cure. Theft out of a motor vehicle, housebreaking and robberies (for instance) are some times committed by drug addicts needing cash for their addiction, while murders and assaults are prevented by removing dangerous weapons and firearms. These arrests positively impact our crime rate, and ensure a safer environment for our residents,” he said.
