Demerit system a good thing!

I can't speak on behalf of everyone but believe this can only be a good thing, considering the number of accidents and frustration on the roads across the country on a daily basis.

I was jumping up and down with joy following the news that ‘a proposed driver ‘demerit’ system’ is just around the corner – this means that those motorists who do as they please will soon be penalised!

According to a major news source, “Public hearings are under way in the Western Cape on the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) Amendment Bill” and, “Members of the public have just a few weeks left to comment on the planned changes to the way road traffic offences are dealt with.” The deadline is 30 March.

The website www.aarto.gov.za explained further: “The demerit points system has been introduced to penalise drivers and operators who are habitual offenders, but, it also rewards law-abiding road users, as it reduces one point every three months down to zero demerit points if no contraventions occur”.

For more about how demerit points are recorded against your name, how they are awarded, and how they can be reduced, click here: [https://www.aarto.gov.za/index.php/demerit-points].
