A total of 156 people, some of them murder suspects, were arrested during numerous operations that included raids and roadblocks this past weekend.
Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, said dedicated law enforcement officers in the West Rand cluster conducted the operations and the successes are due to the cooperation between them and other entities such as the Mogale City, Merafong and Rand West Traffic Departments.

She said arrests in Kagiso and Carletonville include suspects on charges of murder and attempted murder, while quick police reaction in Muldersdrift led to the arrest of a suspect in possession of ammunition. In Hekpoort, two suspects were arrested for carjacking shortly after the incident was reported.
“Other crimes in which successes were achieved include all forms of assault, burglary, theft, possession of hijacked motor vehicles and rape.
Partnerships with traffic departments resulted in arrests for drunken driving, and compliance inspections at a liquor premises resulted in arrests and the issuing of fines for non-compliance with the Liquor Act. Drug use and dealing were also addressed, and led to the arrest of 25 suspects in the cluster.”
Major General PF Kekana, the West Rand Police cluster commander, indicated that no stone will be left unturned to make the cluster a safer place for all its residents.
