UPDATE: #NewYear’sEve murder case

'How many mommy's must still die?' was seen on banners when the alleged #NewYear'sEve killer appeared in court yesterday.

Family and friends of the brutally murdered Danél Rooskrans arrived at the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court on Friday morning 19 January in full force for her alleged killer’s third court appearance.

Rooskrans supporters were seen carrying banners reading ‘How many mommy’s must still die?’ and wearing T-shirts with the message ‘Justice for Danel’. Joining them were representatives from Woman Against Women and Child Abuse, the Toekomsrus Youth Forum and Krugersdorp War Against Drugs. Rooskrans’ father and mother, Dudley and Maureen Michael were also seen wearing T-shirts.

Bertram Moses (Rooskrans’ uncle) is the family’s spokesperson.

The suspect’s family as well as investigative officer Rupert van Zyl attended the hearing. Once again, there was a police presence, but no disruptions.

It was supposed to be a bail application, but attorney Chenique Opperman told the Magistrate the suspect secured the services of private advocate Amanda Nel, who also handled the Ray Leslie murder trial. Leslie got a 13-year sentence for the murder of his ex-wife, Candice Fritz in 2017 – another domestic-related crime that shocked Toekomsrus.

Opperman asked for another postponement until 26 January when Nel will officially represent the suspect. It’s alleged Nel will be abandoning the bail application at this stage.

GAUtv is now also following this case.

After the court proceedings GAUtv interviewed Bertram Moses, Rooskrans’s uncle and also the family’s spokesperson. Moses told the reporter that the family is heartbroken, and they just want justice to be served.
