Police are still searching for suspects in a robbery case after staff at a Sasol filling station were held at gunpoint last month.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson said the incident took place just after midnight on Thursday, 21 December.

“It is alleged the staff members were inside the shop when two men entered, wearing balaclavas covering their faces. One allegedly sprayed pepper spray while the other pointed a firearm at them. The intruders gave the staff a plastic bag and instructed the cashier to fill it with money and cigarettes. They later took off on foot with an undisclosed amount of money and cigarettes.

“The matter was reported to police and a case of business robbery was registered. The suspects are still at large and we are appealing to the community to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of these perpetrators. We urge them not to try and apprehend the suspects as they are deemed armed and dangerous.”

Colonel Abraham Nkhwashu, the Bekkersdal Police station commander appeals to local business owners to increase security at their businesses. They must ensure that doors are locked, especially during the night.

“Rather sell through the window and report any suspicious person or vehicle,” he added.

Anyone with information may contact the Bekkersdal Police on 011 755 0000/1/ 6; alternatively contact the Crime Stop hotline on 08600 10111 or SMS Crime Line on 32211 to report crime anonymously
