Help Wawa to help abused women and kids

Targeted the plots and rural areas in the greater Rand West area as part of their 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Children Abuse campaign.

Women Against Woman and Children Abuse (Wawa) kicked off their 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Children Abuse Campaign on Saturday, 25 November by going door to door, making the community in rural areas aware of the campaign.

Enrico Bhana of Wawa said, “We managed to target new areas with the help and partnership of the police, West Rand District Municipality (WRDM), the Department of Justice, the Randfontein Traffic Department, Public Works and a number of other organisations that assisted us.”

“They need proper services in the rural areas and people see Wawa services as a matter of urgency,” Bhana continued.

Wawa, a Victim Empowerment Programme (VEP), is about caring, supporting and protecting all victims of crime and violence, including the direct victim, the immediate family, dependents of the victim and communities.

The special focus of VEP is on vulnerable groups such as women and children, elderly persons, persons with disabilities, persons living with albinism, victims of human trafficking, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex persons.

“This year we targeted the plots and rural areas in the greater Rand West area and have been working closely with Constable Portia Mabala and Captain Leon Williams from the Police Social Crime Prevention Desk and victim empowerment,” Bhana added.

Brigadier Jacob Manamela, the Randfontein Police station commander thanked Wawa for their contribution and difference they make in the community.

Areas targeted were:

• Brandvlei (Badirile)

• Vleikop

• Montrose

• Magalies

• Witfontein

• Mohlakeng

• BunduInn

• Toekomsrus
