JUST IN: Man killed in crash at infamous R’fontein intersection
BREAKING: R41 is temporarily closed following horror crash at infamous intersection a short while ago.
A man was killed and another five people injured when a light motor vehicle and a bakkie collided near the roadhouse at the infamous R28/ R41 intersection earlier today.
On arrival, the Herald‘s journalist was able to confirm that the light motor vehicle had been carrying three men and a woman. One of the occupants of this vehicle sadly passed away after a long attempt at resuscitation, which was made by various emergency services personnel. This victim is believed to have been middle-aged.
Regional commander, Benny Mohlabeng, confirmed that an emergency helicopter was initially called in, but was cancelled as the person had already passed away.

The driver of the light motor vehicle had to be cut free by the Randfontein Fire Department. One firemen said it took them about seven minutes to get the victim out of the vehicle.
All the injured occupants of the light motor vehicle were transported to various hospitals.
The two men in the bakkie only sustained minor injuries and did not want to be taken to hospital.
Captain Appel Ernst, the Randfontein Police spokesperson, was also on the scene and said the R41 is temporarily closed.
Members of the Sector 4 Community Policing Forum, as well as ER24, Netcare 911, QRS and Emergency Medical Services personnel, plus members of both the West Rand District Municipality’s Department of Public Safety and the Department of Disaster Management also attended the scene.
According to Captain Appel Ernst, there were several witnesses to the accident.
