Woman tied up, blindfolded in home invasion

Police: The suspects, allegedly driving a silver VW Polo, are still at large.

The Bekkersdal Police have launched a manhunt for at least two suspects said to be armed.

This follows a house robbery in Simunye Extension 4 at about 1.30pm last Thursday (7 December).

“It is alleged the victim was inside her house when an unknown man came and asked about a room to rent. She told him there was none. As she was speaking to the man, another one joined them. He pointed a firearm at her and instructed her not to make a noise,” said Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson.

“It is believed they blindfolded their victim, tied her hands with a cable and later fled the scene with a plasma TV and Samsung Galaxy phone.

A case of house robbery was opened at the police and is under investigation. The suspects, allegedly driving a silver VW Polo, are still at large,” Lefakane explained.

The acting station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Albert van Rooyen urges the community to ensure their own safety before allowing anyone into their home.
