Cattle stolen from Ventersdorp recovered in R’fontein

Police and CPF call on all farmers to clearly brand and mark all livestock after cattle stolen from Ventersdorp were recovered on a Loumarina smallholding.

Local police, working with the Sector 5A Community Police Forum (CPF) made several arrests and managed to successfully recover a quantity of stolen cattle on Wednesday, 29 November.

“A local cattle/ livestock auction house contacted the Sector 5A CPF, notifying them of what they thought might be stolen cattle that had been brought in for selling,” said Henry Boyce, Operations Head of the CPF.

After investigating, the local police and CPF members were able to positively identify the cattle as having been stolen in Ventersdorp.

“We call on all livestock farmers to clearly brand all their stock. This will help us to identify cattle in cases where they are stolen,” urged Boyce.

Boyce further said it is their belief that if community members interact and work with the local crime prevention units, better relationships can be formed and the recovery of stolen cattle will be more successful.

The police unit, under the leadership of Sergeant Molokomme, goes beyond the call of duty, and does its best to prevent and combat cattle theft and crime in the area. Sergeant Molokomme is often the middleman between the community and the police, providing less formal channels of communication between police and the community, and is always willing to assist where needed.

“A special thanks must also go to Sergeant Letonkana, Constable Mosidi, Sergeant Ngwenya and Warrant Officer Mokwena. We thank you for your dedication to all plots, farms and rural areas,” added Boyce.

CPF Sector 5A would like to applaud Riaan Herbst for his swift reaction in contacting the CPF and assisting the police.
