Have something to hide municipality?

The municipality has put up a fence, do they have something to hide? Find out here ...

The community is in up and arms after they recently saw a fence go up around the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM). The question is, “Why?”

Calls from the community streamed into the Herald’s office, with community members demanding answers. Social media was also flooded with comments about the fence, some good and some not so positive.

Wynand Kaltwasser also questions the fence.

“I wish the fence was for a safe parking area for all the municipal customers because the street is too full on both sides,” said Jennifer Stokes.

Another community member who wants to stay anonymous wanted to know who is going to pay for the new fence and asked why the municipality did not inform the community about the fence in the first place. Another question the resident asked was whether the municipality had something to hide.

The Herald asked the municipal spokesperson, Tshidiso Tlharipe, for his comment on the fence.

Web: The fence.

“The Rand West City Local Municipality is currently undertaking a process of fencing its building. The reason for the fencing is that a security risk assessment was conducted and the municipality was advised that it’s exposed to possible danger if it’s not fenced.

It’s the security risk assessment that caused the municipality to put up the security fence,” said Tlharipe.

Members of the community feel that the fence is a slap in their faces and that rate- and tax-payers will have to pay for the unnecessary expense.
