Men – The police are warning you to be alert!

Incidents of this nature have been reported in Carletonville, Fochville and Kagiso.

A new modus operandi in thefts has been identified, in which men fall victim to women, who approach them in bars and clubs, have few drinks together, then ask for a lift home, and rob the men while they are under the influence of alcohol.

Communities throughout the West Rand Cluster should be aware of this trend, in order to steer clear of becoming victims.

The modus operandi entails that males, at pubs and other drinking places are targeted by one or two ladies, who engage them in conversation and later request transport home.

“The male victim consumes an alcoholic beverage at some stage of this interaction, after which he allegedly falls asleep. On waking up he then discovers that his belongings have been stolen,” said Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police.

Incidents of this nature have been reported is Carletonville, Fochville and Kagiso. Most of them take place on Fridays between midnight and 4am. The victims lose all their personal belongings and their motor vehicles as a result of this crime.

Male residents in the West Rand Cluster should be vigilant when approached in this manner.

“We believe that prevention is better than cure, therefore we need to sensitise our community about trends that are escalating ” said the Cluster commander, Major General Anna Mateisi.
