An early Christmas in Toekomsrus

The Centre believes that people who are experiencing a dark time in their lives must come to the organisation where they will give them light and assist them with the burdens of life.

Christmas came early for approximately 350 children in Toekomsrus on Friday 17 November.

The non-profit organisation Women Against Women Abuse (Wawa) in partnership with the Santa Shoebox Project, Lions Club, Toekies Men’s Forum, Daniel Kock, Abrie Liebenberg and the Toekomsrus Police put a smile on the children’s faces when they spoiled them with gifts and treats for Christmas. This initiative was the first of it kind for the Centre.

Underprivileged children up to the age of 10 spent the day at the Wawa Centre. The Centre’s slogan for the year – ‘No one ever became poor by giving’ – was a perfect fit.

“Some of these children have never received a Christmas gift in their lives, that is why we decided to give them the opportunity to experience Christmas the way it should be experienced,” said Centre manager, Enrico Bhana.

With Father Christmas present all the children had big smiles on their faces. They could not wait to have a photo taken with the white-bearded man and open the gifts, wrapped especially for them.

Each child also received a food parcel and some treats, and all of them left with memories that will last a lifetime.

The Centre plans on making it an annual event.

Wawa offers a wide range of services to all victims of crimes such as domestic violence, gender-based violence, rape, armed robbery, home robbery, assault, incest and hate crimes. They operate from the Toekomsrus and Mohlakeng Victim Support Centres.

The Centre believes that people who are experiencing a dark time in their lives must come to the organisation where they will give them light and assist them with the burdens of life.
