Police make great strides within one week

A total of 451 arrests in seven days.

The West Rand Cluster Police apprehended 451 suspects during an operation from 12 November to 19 November.

According to their spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst, there will be numerous similar operations during the festive season and suspect tracing will continue.

“Offenders were apprehended for violent crimes such as murder, armed robbery, hijacking and attempted murder. Other crimes include assault, rape, possession of unlicensed firearms and domestic-related offences.

Shoplifting, driving offences – including driving under the influence of liquor – and drug-related offences also received the necessary attention and arrests were made,” said Ernst.

In Randfontein 43 illegal miners were arrested while in Carletonville, a Liquor Act compliance operation led to illegal liquor traders being closed down and liquor being confiscated.

In other areas of the West Rand a 38-year-old was arrested after setting his girlfriend’s house on fire. In another case a 19-year-old was apprehended by a community member for raping a 53-year-old.

The police also destroyed a dagga field in their area after members of the Rural Safety and Mounted Units had discovered it during crime-prevention patrols. With the assistance of community members and security companies in the area approximately 3 000 dagga plants were uprooted.

The West Rand Cluster Management appreciate the efforts of the members who brought the perpetrators to book.
