Those who witnessed criminal attack at Mall must come forward – ANC

We condemn in the strongest possible terms such heinous crimes against humanity in our region, province and the country in general.

The African National Congress in the West Rand Region has learned with dismay of the heinous racial crime during which a black man was brutally assaulted by a group of white males recently in Tambotie Mall, Randfontein. It is understood that the incident took place between the 4th and 5th November 2017.

According to sources, the victim was in the company of his wife when the attack occurred, and both are highly traumatised.

We also wish to call on some from within our communities to stop spreading incorrect, misleading information, saying that the man passed on. This information came from unknown sources whose agenda appears to be to create unnecessary fear, instability and mistrust among the members of the community.

The ANC remains committed to its historic mission of the total destruction of apartheid and its racist policies, and building a united non-racial, non-sexist and democratic society.

We condemn in the strongest possible terms such heinous crimes against humanity in our region, province and the country in general. It does not matter whether the attack was directed at the white, black, Indian or Coloured communities – South Africa cannot lose the gains that were achieved through blood and sweat.

The ANC calls on those who witnessed this criminal attack at Tambotie Mall to come forward and assist law enforcement agencies to speedily bring justice and closure to the matter. Branches of the ANC are also called upon to lead and guide communities in struggles for social justice and to uproot crimes against humanity and build integrated communities throughout the West Rand Region.

We call on all white South Africans who love peace to isolate minority racists who continue to make efforts to bring South Africa to its knees through isolated incidents of racism.
