UPDATE: Police call for witnesses to mall assault

JUST IN: Randfontein Police call for witnesses as assault investigation at Tambotie Mall continues.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault that took place at Tambotie Mall in Randfontein on Saturday, 4 November to come forward.

A video showing the incident went viral on social media. The incident apparently took place at about 5pm.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, confirmed on Monday, 6 November that a case of assault had been registered. On Tuesday, 7 November more information about the assault came to light.

“The case was not brought to court on Monday as the prosecutor still wanted investigations to be conducted into the case. Witness statements are still outstanding. The Randfontein Police requests any witnesses who may be able to shed light on the incident to come forward,” said Ernst.

Randfontein Police management condemns any form of violence and discourages our communities from taking the law into their own hands.

“Our communities must also be careful not to make racial connotations with regard to crime. Crime affects everyone. Let us join hands to eradicate crime, without looking at colour,” said the station commander, Brigadier Manamela.
