The relative said that she is out of the coma, but because of all the medication, she does not fully react. The doctor moved her out of the Intensive Care Unit, and she is now in a normal ward.

The family member said that she is coughing badly, and her lungs are not well. She remains on the oxygen machine. The relative also said that they did a brain scan, which indicated that everything is fine, but they still need to test her brain waves, once the medication wears off.

Only after that will they establish if any damage has been done. Since the tragic incident, her medical condition has been improving, and the family is hopeful and asks the community to keep on praying for her.

At this stage the family is not ready to speak to the Herald in an interview, as their only focus is their baby girl’s health.

At about 5.30pm on Wednesday, 11 October, ER24 paramedics received an emergency call about a near-drowning incident involving a 14-month-old baby girl, and that she needed urgent medical attention.

An official, reliable source told the Herald the little girl was below the surface for about two minutes before she was pulled from the pool. Her father performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) until he felt a weak pulse.

ER24 paramedics then took over, and she was first taken to a private hospital and then moved to a state hospital.
