Don’t wait, vaccinate — Life Robinson

Our very own Life Robinson Private Hospital encourages vaccinations.

Life Robinson Private Hospital has emphasised the importance of vaccinations.

Melanie van Staden, marketing and communications co-ordinator at the hospital, explained that last month, annual National Pharmacy Week became National Pharmacy Month, providing pharmacies and pharmacists with the opportunity to further educate their communities. The hospital’s pharmacy did not let the opportunity pass them by and planned an active programme for National Pharmacy Month.

The SA Pharmacy Council’s theme for 2017 was ‘Don’t wait, vaccinate’. The aim of the campaign was to educate communities about the importance of vaccinations. Life Robinson Private Hospital’s pharmacy focused on a different vaccination every week for the duration of National Pharmacy Month.

The five vaccines chosen were:

• Measles vaccine

• Hepatitis A and B vaccines

• Polio vaccine

• Flu vaccine

• Rabies vaccine

“Vaccinations assist in protecting individuals, their families and the community as a whole against diseases. Educating our community regarding the benefits of vaccination and the types of vaccinations available is imperative,” said Dr Marinda Overbeek, the hospital manager.

Awareness activities included an information corner outside the pharmacy to educate visitors, patients and colleagues on the five chosen vaccines. A number of exciting competitions were held during the month, including a lucky draw for the maternity unit patients and the community as well as a colouring competition for both the paediatric unit patients and visitors.

National Pharmacy Month ended on a high note when the competition winners were announced and 10-year-old Chené Vrey was named the winner of the colouring competition.
