Six-year jail term for burglar

A burglar got six years behind bars for a housebreaking committed in November 2016.

Thembani Nodolo, 32, was convicted and sentenced to six years’ direct imprisonment, plus a further eight months for housebreaking, theft, and possession of housebreaking implements.

“Nodolo came from the Mandela section in Bekkersdal,” said Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson.

The sentence was imposed in the Randfontein Regional Court on 20 September.

“In the early hours of Monday morning, 14 November 2016, the suspect broke into a house in Zuurbekom and stole electrical appliances, expensive pots, blankets and other items,” said Sergeant Lefakane.

A case of housebreaking and theft was reported to the Bekkersdal Police, and information was received about possible suspects. The members who received the complaint, Constables Piet Mofokeng and Bongani Mncube, responded swiftly as they were patrolling in the sector, and spotted two males carrying plastic bags.

“The members approached the men, who started running in different directions. They managed to catch both suspects and when they opened the plastic bags, they noticed property which they suspected had been stolen in the complaint they were attending to in Zuurbekom,” Sergeant Lefakane said.

They took the suspects to the Bekkersdal Police Station, where a case of possession of stolen property was registered. Through an investigation led by detective Constable Shiwe Mkone, the suspect was connected to the house-breaking and was denied bail, Sergeant Lefakane added.

Investigation revealed that Ndolo was the mastermind behind the crime. The acting station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Benitta Shibiria applauded the members for the job well done and thanked the community for the information that led to the recovery of the stolen property.
