Roar of the 1660cc Oval Track cars

On the evening, with a nice start to summer, the 1 660cc class cars was ready for action.

Racing enthusiasts proudly showed off the roar and thunder of their engines in a 1 660cc Challenge and prize money event at the Randfontein Oval Track on Saturday, 9 September.

Racing started at 6pm and this time the prize money went to the 1 660cc class cars. Deon Coetzee Snr and his wife, Mari, held the first Prize Money Challenge on 12 August, which was for the 2 100cc racers.

On the evening, making a good start to summer, the 1 660cc class cars were ready for action. The Prize Money Challenge again offered amazing prizes to the value of R10 000 to the three best 1 660cc racers.

Other classes that spectators enjoyed watching included the Super Go-Karts, the Hot Rods, 8V Midgets, 16V Midgets, 2100cc, the Ninjas, Rookies, Banshees, Sidecars, 450 Quads and the Flexis.

The winner in the 1 660cc challenge was Pieter Bester, followed by Ludi Schnelle in second place and Albert John in third.Other winners include:

• Ninjas: First place, Francois van der Merwe; second place Ruan de Lange, and third place Jacque Venter
• Rookies: First, Sam East; second, Deon du Preez, and third, Austin Nel
• Banshees: First, Bryan Herbst; second, Angeline Swanepoel
• 8VMidgets: First place Jan de Bruyn; second place Francois Wahlstrand, and third place Mark Fos
• 16V Midgets: First place Tiaan Flynn; second place Roelof Wolvaardt, and third place Franco van der Walt
• Super Go-Karts: First, Robbie Robbertse; second, Hennie Strydom
• HotRods: First, Albert van der Westhuizen; secondm Ryno Trichardt, and third, Johan Els
• Sidecars: First place, Kallie Britz and Leon van den Krooden; second place, Konrad Britz and Wayne Pretorius
• 450 Quads: First, Bryan Herbst; second, Charl Raubenheimer, and third, Yolandi Raubenheimer
• Flexis: First, Ben Morgenrood; second, Deon Coetzee, and third, Albert van der Westhuizen
