Brave Nienaber dies

Brave security officer shot in the line of duty in 2016 passes away.

Marius Nienaber, the security reaction officer who was wounded in the line of duty in November 2016 has sadly passed away on Wednesday 16 August.

His wife confirmed his death on Friday morning.

Nienaber, a husband and father, was gunned down on Kiewiet Street when he responded to a carjacking. When he confronted the robbers, they shot him.

According to a statement by Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson about the shooting in 2016, he was shot twice – once in the shoulder and once in the thigh, leaving him in critical condition.

Nienaber was then rushed to Netcare Milpark Hospital by helicopter. Quick Response Service (QRS) paramedics, who treated him, said he was in critical condition.

Nienaber’s death is deeply mourned by the Randfontein Community.
