Three West Rand rapists jailed

Police managed to put three rapists behind bars for the offences they committed on the West Rand.

Three men will spend three years, 20 years and life behind bars respectively for their sexual crimes on the West Rand.

It is clear that the West Rand Police are not resting on their laurels when it comes to investigating sexual offences.

“We as police members echo the remarks of Minister of Police, Fikile Mbalula, during the introduction of the policy on reducing barriers to reporting sexual offences and domestic violence. One victim of such a crime is one too many,” said Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson.

“We are committed to the vulnerable elements in our communities,” Ernst added.

Dedicated investigators have achieved excellent results to bring to book those who commit crimes against women and children.

These are the examples …

• In Carletonville an attempted rape and common robbery of a 42-year-old female was finalised last week. The 27-year-old accused was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment.

• In Khutsong, a 2015 rape case was finalised. The 18-year-old accused faced three charges of rape and was sentenced to serve 20 years in prison. His victim was 15 years old at the time of the offences.

• In Kagiso, a life imprisonment sentence was handed down to the rapist of a 12-year-old minor. The accused strangled her, raped her and then threatened to kill her if she disclosed the rape.

The two investigating officers assigned to investigating these cases, Warrant Officer Morgan Tenyane (Carletonville and Khutsong cases) and Sergeant Lebogang Kgamane (Kagiso case) are applauded for their commitment to ensuring justice for the vulnerable.
