New obstacle course to get the unfit in better shape

There is an obstacle course at Laerskool Randfontein that has fun and fit written all over it.

A brand-new obstacle course has been set up at Laerskool Randfontein for the purpose of getting the unfit in better shape.

The people behind it are the members of the Zero 2 Summit Outdoor Club, which was formed to get inactive people more active in a fun and safe environment. They said the obstacle course has fit and fun written all over it.

According to chairperson Vicky van Zyl, “It is the club’s purpose to create events where individuals or families of all fitness levels can participate and enjoy the outdoors while getting fit and healthy”.

She added that there is a place for everyone at the club. Activities coordinated by the club include obstacle training, trail running, hiking and mountain biking. The obstacle course at the school is also available to companies for their team-building events or for birthday parties.

“Many people dream of spending a weekend of outdoor activities with their families, but they don’t get around doing it because they believe they won’t be able to keep up with the other club members.

“People have to start at level zero and slowly work their way up to their desired level of fitness. Everybody has to start somewhere, and the sooner they start, the better,” Vicky said.

Each part of the name ‘Zero 2 Summit’ has a symbolic meaning that represents the club’s mission and vision. The number ‘zero’ is symbolic of the seed from which pure potential emerges. The number ‘2’ symbolises kindness, balance, tact, equalisation and duality. It also deals with exchanges made with others, such as partnerships and communication.

A summit can mean either a meeting of people who are interested in the same subject, or it can refer to the highest point of a mountain.
