Woman killed in crash at horror intersection

A woman lost her life following a two-vehicle crash at an intersection in Culemborg Park on the afternoon of 31 July.

A woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Tambotie Road and Horingbek Avenue in Culemborg Park yesterday afternoon.

Numerous emergency and paramedic services as well as the traffic department, police and many bystanders were on scene when the Herald arrived.

According to an eyewitness, the vehicle the woman was travelling in came from Malan Avenue and approached the intersection while the other vehicle, identified as a bakkie with a quad bike on the back, came along Tambotie Avenue towards Lazaar Avenue.

As a result of the crash and impact, the woman’s vehicle ended up crushed against one of the traffic lights.

According to another eyewitness and some bystanders, the traffic lights at that intersection change rather quickly from orange to red. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be investigated.

After the crash, several eyewitnesses said the woman appeared to be alive for approximately five minutes, but then succumbed to her injuries and passed away. Paramedics on scene said unfortunately nothing could be done for her.

The grief-stricken mother and daughter of the victim arrived on scene shortly after she had passed away.

Many believe this intersection is a huge problem and accidents there have increased since the opening of the Mall.
