West Gold Primary wins Golden Lions title

An U/10 West Gold rugby player scored a remarkable five tries in the final to win the title.

West Gold Primary School’s U/10 rugby team is the winner of this year’s Golden Lions title in the Developing Team Category for the Gauteng District.

The three proud coaches are Adriaan Vorster, Ruan Pieterse and Tiaan Liebenberg.

Lethabo Moalusi, captain Relebogile Ntwe and vice-captain Koketso Boemo.

Adriaan said although they finished second in the league, it was the play-offs that mattered and where they stepped up.

West Gold first beat Modderfontein Primary in the quarter-final, followed by another victory against Laerskool Gerrit Maritz in the semifinal. West Gold then beat Nooitgedacht Primary in the nail-biter final with a score of 39–36 in which West Gold’s Lethabo Moalusi scored an unheard-of five tries.

Adriaan explained, “It was an extremely tough final, but our team showed good character and proudly walked away with the title”.

Man of the match was none other than Lethabo.

“We are extremely proud of the boys and will continue to practise hard for the next season,” all three coaches agreed.
