BREAKING: Five arrested shortly after armed robbery

Five suspects arrested shortly after armed robbery at business in Elandsvlei earlier today.

EPR Security and the Randfontein Police were able to catch five armed suspects just minutes after the crime was committed in Elandsvlei earlier today (Friday, 21 July).

According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, the suspects armed with a firearm and three knifes robbed a business, a general dealer specifically in Lang Avenue, Elandsvlei agricultural holdings.

Quickly responding to an alarm at the business, reaction officer Adriaan Fritz established the vehicle was travelling in the direction of the Randfontein CBD. He immediately contacted the police of the Randfontein Crime Prevention Unit and supplied them with a lookout regarding the vehicle.

Police members Warrant officer Dix Dicks and Constable Shoes Mosweu responded and in a joint effort, the vehicle was traced and the five occupants inside apprehended.

Stashed under the back seat police also found the firearm used in the commission of the robbery.

The five suspects aged between 21 and 30 will be charged with armed robbery, being possession of an unlicensed firearm and dangerous weapons. They are expected to appear in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 24 July.
