Another fatal weekend accident

One person killed, three others injured in another road accident during the weekend.

One man was killed and three others injured after two light motor vehicles collided on the N12 in Westonaria on Sunday, 16 July.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at about 9.05pm to find both vehicles on the side of the road.

“Both vehicles had sustained serious damage,” said Russel Meiring, an ER24 spokesperson.

Upon closer inspection, paramedics found a man lying outside one of the vehicles. Another man was found trapped in the one vehicle while a woman and 16-year-old boy were found trapped in the other.

“Paramedics assessed the patients and found the man trapped in his vehicle had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life.

Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his injuries. Nothing more could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene.”

The two patients in the other vehicle, and the man found lying outside the vehicle, were assessed and found to be in a critical condition. Rescue services had to use specialised equipment to free the trapped patients. Once freed, paramedics treated all three, providing them with several advanced life support interventions.

One of the critically injured was later airlifted by the ER24 Oneplan Helicopter to a nearby hospital while the two others were transported by ambulance.

The details surrounding this incident are not yet known, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
