During the last few years, several women and children have been reported raped, murdered or abducted. The tipping point was the recent rape assaults and deaths of six people in and around Thusanang informal settlement. Similar cases were reported at Westonaria, Bekkersdal and Mohlakeng.

RWLM Speaker, councillor Violet Nqina-Mzondeki decided to host a Kwanele dialogue session on violence against women and children in her quest to find solutions to the continuing carnage. The session sought to find collective solutions and strategies to deal with this challenge.

“I am here to support the need for solutions against violence, especially against women,” said Ntombenkulu Lefakane.

Gauteng Provincial Legislature Speaker Ntombi Mekgwe and Gugu Ndima, spokesperson of Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina led the dialogue. Others high-profile guests such as municipal partners, church leaders, faith leaders, women’s organisations, men’s organisations and the police attended the event.
