Walking in N.W.A.’s footsteps

A young rapper is determined to make it in the music world. This is his story ...

“All I want to do is work. I just want to be the best at it,” is what 19-year-old rapper, CaRniivall, said about his rhymes.

At the young age of 19, CaRniivall has decided that what he wants to do with his life is make music.

CaRniivall is originally from Soweto, but moved to Greenhills, Randfontein when he was much younger.

At the age of 11 he started writing rhymes and rapping. At 14, he said he took it a bit more seriously and by the time he was 16, he had released his first song.

“I have a passion for music. I know I can be the best at it,” he said.

CaRniivall says all he wants to do is work at being the best.

The serious young man said he spends nearly all of his time at his home studio in Greenhills.

“I’m far from where I want to be, but I’m not rushing. These things take time and I want to work on it. Watch out, I’m coming,” he said.

In addition to being a rapper, CaRniivall has also started his own recording label called ViBE KiNGS and has five other artists signed up.

The young man seems to want to follow in the footsteps of late 80s rap group, N.W.A., who started various record labels as young men.

Small beginnings yielded an endless amount of fame for the young men and to this day group members such as Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Eazy-E are still spoken of.

Forbes has placed them third on this year’s Forbes Five-a ranking of the world’s wealthiest hip-hop artists, with a net worth of $740 million.

Surprisingly, CaRniivall has a taste for anything but hard rap, favouring artists like Drake and Jay-Z.

For now, he will be releasing his second mix-tape called Fan Base, on 12 June.
