Bail for the man who stands accused of murdering his 37-year-old ex-wife, Candice Fritz, has been denied.
The Herald attended the court proceedings on Thursday, 18 May, when it was confirmed that the case will be transferred to the High Court, although no specific details of the court were provided. This matter will be clarified at the next hearing in Randfontein on Friday, 26 May.
The Magistrate was informed by Advocate Nel – the accused’s legal representative – that she had received the dossier from the State Prosecutor, and needed time to study it before she decided whether to represent the accused in the High Court.

According to close family, the court has confirmed that the case is being prosecuted as a Schedule 6 case. Once again there was plenty of support for the murdered Candice, or “Candy” as she was known to family, friends and the Women against Women and Child Abuse organisation. T-shirts printed with Candice’s photo and the words “Sisters for Life” were worn by her supporters.
