WATCH: After five years the Greenhills Cemetery got a much-needed upgrade.

After five years of complaints, calls and reporting, the Greenhills Cemetery has finally received its much-needed repairs.

Peter Dick, DA Ward 9 councillor, said the cemetery has been on the municipality’s five-year plan and has finally been seen to.

The Herald had published various articles about the state of the cemetery, putting emphasis on the palisade fencing and the gates at the cemetery.

Cars and trucks have in the past crashed into the cemetery’s concrete palisade fencing, damaging a substantial amount of the fencing. In addition, the parts not heavily damaged were targeted by vandals and man-sized holes could be seen on every side of the cemetery.

The cemetery has recently been repaired and an elated Dick has taken to social media about the victory in his ward.

“At last. After five years of planning, there are new gates at the Greenhills Cemetery and the cemetery’s perimeter wall has been fixed. Thank you. The graveyard has also been cleaned,” Dick said.

Dick said the gates can now be closed to keep vandals out. They also make the cemetery look better than it did before. He is now waiting for the municipality to fix the palisades around the main cemetery block.

“I’m happy about all the repairs. I’ve been struggling for a while and I just hope things remain this way,” Dick said.
