Man stabbed on his wedding anniversary by teen drug-dealer

'[H]e sells dagga and mandrax to passers-by' – Victim.

On his second wedding anniversary, 40-year-old Randy Christian was stabbed in the back by an alleged teenage drug-dealer.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, 24 April outside Christian’s home and Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) base in Toekomsrus.

Christian said he was busy with a substance abuse workshop when he noticed a young man standing outside his home, which is located next to a tuck shop, with a small black bag.

“It was the same boy I’ve been chasing away from outside my home because he sells dagga and mandrax to passers-by,” Christian explained.

He said he left the workshop and went to ask the teen, who is presumed to be about 17-years-old, to leave. The young man allegedly swore at him and told him there was nothing Christian could do to stop him.

Randy Christian’s wound after being treated and stapled.

“I got upset. He stands outside my house where I have many children and addicts coming through to try to turn their lives around, and sells drugs. I confiscated the black bag, threw it on the floor, stepped on it and told him I would call the police,” Christian said.

Once the drugs were on the floor, Christian briefly turned his back on the teen after hearing his wife shout to look behind him, but it was already too late. The teen stabbed him in the back and made a dash for freedom.

Christian was then taken to the Mohlakeng Clinic, where he said he received outstanding treatment, and got five staples in his back to seal the wound.

“The doctors said I was very lucky because the boy missed major nerves in my back. He also said if it wasn’t for my size and my scapula, the knife would have gone right through to my lung,” said Christian.

Christian has since opened a case against the teen and is waiting for his arrest as well as court proceedings to begin so justice can be served. He hopes that this will assist in exposing the drug-dealing underworld in Toekomsrus, where many young men and women throw their lives away for a quick buck.
