Baby boy who died in tragic house fire identified

Baby boy victim identified in deadly house fire.

The 17-month-old baby boy who died after sustaining severe burn injuries in a house fire has been identified as Lerato Tlholoe.

The Herald visited the family’s home on Wednesday,when both his father, Maimane Motshabi, 35, and mother, Lisa Tlholoe, 28, explained what happened that tragic day.

The Herald previously reported that the shack the family was living in burnt down at about 6pm on Saturday, 22 April, and that their baby sadly died in hospital two days later. Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police’s spokesperson confirmed this incident. Ernst added that during the rescue, the father also sustained burn wounds. They were both transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The injuries to the baby were severe and he was transferred to the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital for specialised treatment.
