A dirt road situated next to the Tweeloopie Spruit river in North Way has recently caved in and left residents frustrated at the fact that the road is now unusuable and there seems to be no plans by the municipality to fix it.

However according to Ward 9 Councilor Peter Dick, this could have been avoided had the municipality listened to him two years ago and implemented preventative measures.

“The road was in a poor condition and anyone could foresee that this was going to happen.

“I have been trying to get the municipality to attend to this problem for the past two years however that has continuously been a fruitless exercise.

“I suggested that they tar the road in order to avoid any further damage.

“It was inevitable that the rain would wash away the sand but clearly those suggestions were not welcomed.

“Now we are sitting with a situation that could have been very well avoided,” says Dick.

Randfontein Local Municipality spokesperson Lucky Chiya says that he will revert back with comment with regards to the matter in due course.
