WATCH: Traffic delays on R28 due to horrific truck crash
A carrier truck collided with a abnormal load delivery truck causing an R28 lane to close down.
There will be major traffic delays on the R28 after a carrier truck collided with an abnormal-load truck transporting cars.
According to reports on scene, a smaller carrier truck was heading towards Randfontein Central Business District (CBD) past a car dealership when it collided with the abnormal-load truck.
The abnormal-load truck driver had stopped near the dealership, waiting for instruction where to off-load its cargo. The smaller carrier truck was driving right behind it.
When the driver realised the abnormal-load truck had stopped, he swerved, but it was too late. He hit the side of the truck, propelling it approximately 40 metres from where it had originally stopped.
Quick Response Services (QRS) were on scene to do medical evaluations but both drivers escaped unscathed.
Traffic on the R28 near Salamaat Motors is currently backed up, but is being controlled by the Randfontein Traffic Police. Cars from the north-bound lane of the R28 have no option but to cross the traffic island onto the south-bound lane to bypass the scene of the collision.
