Retail store hit by two armed robbers

Pep Store in CBD robbed at gunpoint. Details here:

Yesterday, 14 March, at approximately 4 pm, Pep Stores in Main Reef Road was once again the target of a business robbery

“It is alleged that two suspects entered the store and took cellular telephones, tablets and money at gunpoint.” said Captain Appel Ernst, the Randfontein Police spokesperson.

Captain Ernst said further that a traffic officer at Randfontein Traffic called the Randfontein Police Reaction Unit at 4.35pm to assist her with a suspicious vehicle. The three members responded immediately.

The police found the vehicle with one occupant and started inspecting it. In the boot they found two carrier bags containing cellular telephones and tablets. The man was unable to give a reasonable explanation and was placed under arrest for possession of stolen property.

The police were only then informed by a bystander that there had been a robbery at Pep Stores. Numerous sets of false registration plates were also found in the vehicle.

The 30-year-old suspect will be charged and taken to court in due course.

Brigadier Manamela, the Randfontein station commander, congratulated the officers on the arrest and recovery of the stolen property. “Warrant Officer Dix Dicks and Constables Bongani Sibiya and Shoes Mosweu did the Randfontein Police proud,” he said.
