A prominent local school in Randfontein had approximately 21 of its classes broken into during a botched burglary over the long weekend of 16 June.

According to a teacher at the school, in their attempts, the criminals left a huge mess behind with files thrown all over the floor.

“Apart from stealing from us, we suspect that the criminals had intentions to vandalise the school.

“They literally broke into 21 classes and went through all the cupboards.

“They threw all the files to the floor and fled with items such as CD players, canned food and few stationery items.

“It could be that they were looking for perhaps valuable items but did not find any.

“This is a school and not a bank.

“We do not keep expensive items and any smart criminal would know this,” says the teacher.

He adds that the suspects returned the following day to try their luck once again.

During this time, they attempted to break into the school’s computer lab but failed.

The alarm went off and it is suspected that they fled on foot.

Another teacher at the school says that the matter has been reported to the Department of Education for further investigation.
