Woman, 46, busted for drug possession

Woman arrested and charged with drug possession in Randfontein.

A 46-year-old woman was arrested for being in possession of drugs after a police chase in Simunye.

The arrest took place on Friday, 3 March when Constable Maisrael Thabane from the Bekkersdal Police followed up on information received about a woman dealing drugs.

When Thabane arrived at the reported location, she immediately spotted a woman who as soon as she saw Thabane, started running away, and removing a plastic bag from her waist and disposing of it on the ground.

The officer chased the woman and later caught up with her, apprehended her and investigated the plastic bag.

“Inside the plastic she found a powder suspected to be drugs. She immediately arrested the suspect for being in possession of suspected drug substance,” Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police Spokesperson said.

The woman is expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 6 March.

“We encourage the community to work hand-in-hand with the police especially by providing positive information,” Colonel Abraham Nkwashu, Station Commander of the Bekkersdal Police said.
