Breakthrough in pre-Christmas murder of Pelzvale man – two arrested.

Police have made a breakthrough in the gruesome murder of a 65-year-old male Pelzvale smallholding resident.

The man was found dead and tied up in a house on a Pelzvale smallholding on 23 December, just two days before Christmas.

Some items were also missing from the house. Intensive investigation followed and for four days and nights, the West Rand Trio Task team and members of the West Rand K9 Unit worked tirelessly to trace the suspects.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson stated, “Two men were apprehended in the early hours of Friday, 24 February 2017. One of them was found in possession of a cellphone which had belonged to the deceased. Their arrest led the team to a cellular shop in Bree Street, Johannesburg.”

She added that the members conducted a search and seizure operation and confiscated numerous cellphones and tablets. The value of the seized goods is approximately R40 000. The two suspects apprehended are currently being questioned regarding possession of the stolen goods. The murder suspect(s) are still on the run.

The murder investigation is continuing. The suspects will face charges of possession of stolen goods for the time being.

The Randfontein station commander, Brigadier Manamela, commended the officers for their commitment and perseverance in tracing the suspects.

“Lieutenant Colonel Gert Kruger and his dedicated group of men and women again showcased their stubbornness when dealing with perpetrators. Your efforts are appreciated,” said Manamela.
