Cyclist critical after collision

Cyclist critical after being hit by car.

A cyclist was left fighting for his life after being hit by a bakkie on the R501 in Carletonville on Wednesday evening (22 February).

Paramedics from the ER24 Carletonville Branch found a man that had been knocked off his bicycle allegedly while crossing the road. He was lying on the side of the road next to his bicycle, which was in pieces.

Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson said, “Paramedics assessed the man and found he had sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition. He was treated immediately and advanced life support was initiated in an effort to stabilise his vital signs.

“Once treated, the man was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital for urgent treatment. The driver of the bakkie, which collided with the man, was assessed and found to have escaped injury.”

Local authorities were on the scene to investigate the details surrounding this incident.

In early December 2015, a cyclist was knocked down and killed at the Lazaar-Greenhills Avenue intersection in Randfontein (photo above).
