The Randfontein Traffic Department together with the Randfontein SAPS embarked on a massive roadblock on the Randfontein Road on 19 June.

During this time, officers brought traffic to a standstill and searched vehicles travelling to and from Randfontein.

Further down the road was the Mogale City traffic officers who were also hard at work with a roadblock of their own.

According to Randfontein Traffic Chief Kenny Mampondo, at no point will he and his team loosen up on those who violate traffic rules.

“We will be conducting road blocks throughout the year and will be engaging with the Randfontein SAPS.

“This is to ensure that we deal with road rule benders effectively.

“We will try by all means to minimise the root causes of accidents such as unroadworthy vehicles and negligent drivers.

“Our zero tolerance principle will still be applied throughout and we will fight not to have any blood shed on our roads owing to accidents,” says Mampondo.

He adds that numerous fines were handed out for defects found on vehicles and motorists found to be travelling without drivers licenses as well as safety belts.

“People need to fully understand the importance of abiding to road rules and the repercussions for the failure thereof.”
