Toekies mom murder case postponed

Latest on the case where a mom of two was found murdered in her car has been postponed to March. Details here:

The ex-husband of Candice Leslie (née Fritz) was supposed to appear in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court for the fifth time today, 9 February, for his bail application, but this did not happen.

The family informed the Herald the day before that the case would not be heard as the magistrate is ill. The suspects’ bail application date has therefore been moved to 3 March. He last appeared in the Randfontein Magistrates’Court on Tuesday, 13 December, when his bail application was postponed to 9 February.

On 13 December, Woman Against Women and Child Abuse (Wawa) walked from the Toekomsrus Police Station to the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court in protest against bail being granted to the suspect. Family members of Fritz also joined in the protest.

A reliable source said that the suspect is allegedly making phone calls from the Krugersdorp Correctional Services to residents in Toekomsrus.

In November, Leslie, the 37-year-old mother of two young children, was found brutally murdered in her car. The Herald attended the first court hearing on 16 November, and the suspect’s fourth appearance on 13 December. On that occasion, Magistrate Botha postponed the court hearing, as advocate Nel, the suspect’s legal representative, could not make the hearing.

The Herald spoke to Grant Fritz, the victim’s brother, after the hearing on 13 December, where he said, “We are happy about the outcome as we know now he [the suspect] will be behind bars until February. We are a bit disappointed that the case was once again postponed.”

At the suspect’s first court appearance, Magistrate Botha confirmed that the charge against the suspect was one of murder and that the victim had been stabbed repeatedly before succumbing to her injuries.
