VIDEO: Truck and LDV collide: Both drivers survive

Watch: Man escapes with only minor injuries after a truck collided with his LDV this morning.

Yet another collision has taken place in Wheatlands near the intersection where a mother lost her life and her daughter was found in a critical condition.

The collision took place on the morning of Monday, 23 January, just three days after the previous fatal crash.

According to reports on scene, this will make for the sixth collision in and around the intersection since the beginning of the year.

This particular collision took place on the bend of the Dwarskloof Road. A truck collided with a light delivery vehicle (LDV) after the LDV performed a U-turn on the bend. The truck could not avoid the LDV and T-boned it on the driver’s side.

Fortunately the driver of the LDV walked away from the crash with minor injuries but was transported to hospital for observations as he was in severe shock. The truck driver sustained no injuries, however, both vehicles were damaged.

Netcare 911 responded to the call and treated the injured man in his LDV, from which he did not emerge until medical personnel arrived. Quick Response Services (QRS) later came out with an ambulance to transport the man to hospital.

The many residents on the scene expressed their concern about the frequency of collisions on the road and complained about the lack of markings as well as the negligence of drivers who do not adhere to the 60km/h speed limit on the road.

The road’s markings have long since faded, and although the incident took place in the morning, the lack of lights on the road can prove fatal for those who have not previously travelled on the road.

Netcare 911, Mapogo Security and the Hekpoort Police were the first services at the scene of the crash.
