Bus and truck collide: Driver in his 20s killed

An accident involving a bus and a truck claimed the life of a driver in his 20s last night.

A bus driver believed to be 28 years old was killed when his bus collided with a truck on the N12 in Westonaria on Tuesday night (17 January).

Werner Vermaak, ER24 spokesperson said, “Shortly before 11pm, paramedics from ER24 found the bus and the delivery truck. The unknown man who had suffered fatal injuries, was found near the wheels of the truck.”

He said it was evident that the bus had crashed into the side of the truck. A large hole in the windscreen of the bus suggested that the driver was flung through the windscreen and onto the wheels of the truck during the collision.

Sadly, there was nothing paramedics could do to save his life and he was declared dead on the scene. No occupants were found inside the bus and it is believed the bus was not carrying any passengers at the time of the collision.

The truck driver did not sustain any injuries.

The incident was handed over to the local authorities for further investigation.
