PIC: Men wanted in connection with gang rape

Woman, 24, gang-raped by four men. The victim was able to identify one of the four men and assisted in compiling an identikit.

The Bekkersdal Police have launched a manhunt for the men who allegedly had robbed and gang-raped a 24-year-old woman.

The crimes were committed on Wednesday, 14 December, said Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson.

The woman was said to have been standing at a bus stop in Westonaria, waiting for a taxi. Later, a white Toyota Quantum with four men stopped next to her, allegedly creating the impression that it was a taxi.

When the young woman was about the pay the driver, he, instead of taking the money, pointed a firearm at her. The man then demanded her bank cards as well as her pin codes, which she handed over along with her handbag.

Her face was later covered with a jersey while the driver drove to a secluded area where the men allegedly took turns raping her.

The four men then drove to a dumpsite near Doornkop where they left her stranded. She was later assisted by a passer-by who took her to the Protea Police Station.

A case of robbery and rape was registered and all suspects are still on the run,” Lefakane said.

Police are now urging anyone who may shed light on the identities of the other suspects to contact the Bekkersdal Police on 011 755 0000/ 1/ 2.
