A learner was recently robbed of his schoolbag while trying to be a Good Samaritan on his way to school.
According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the victim was walking to school when he came across a man, the suspect, at a cafe in Simunye Extension 5.
The man allegedly asked him to help load goods onto a vehicle and the learner agreed. As they reached where the vehicle should have been parked, one of the learner’s friends passed by and while the learners were greeting each other, the suspect grabbed his helper’s bag and made a dash for it.
“The victim tried to trace him but his efforts were in vain,” Lefakane said.
Police are now searching for the suspect who they believe is a foreign national.
