VIDEO: Cops vow zero tolerance

Police vow zero tolerance on the roads this festive season.

The Rand West City Traffic Police had its first major roadblock for the festive season on Friday, 9 December, and have already shown zero tolerance.

The roadblock took place on the R28 between Randfontein and Westonaria where members of the police, traffic police, emergency services and immigration services joined hands for the sake of road safety.

The official roadblock successes have not yet been released; however, the Herald has been informed of two arrests made during the early morning roadblock.

According to the Traffic Chief, Kenny Mampondo, one driver was arrested for driving under the influence. A second person was arrested for tearing up a traffic fine after losing his temper with the traffic police.

The fine was for an amount of R100 and was a section 52 fine, meaning that he was driving a car with a broken hooter. The man accepted the fine and then proceeded to tear up the official court document in front of the traffic police, who then arrested him for the offence.

Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, the Randfontein Police station commander said there will be zero tolerance from the side of the police and urged his officers to not turn a blind eye to traffic offences as the police and traffic police have a common objective – making the festive season safe and cracking down on crime.

Police say roadblocks will be a regular occurrence on Rand West City Local Municipality roads and drivers will feel their presence.
