Greenhills boy, 12, held up for bicycle

The accused, a 22-year-old man, has since been arrested and put behind bars.

A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to three years’ imprisonment after robbing a 12-year-old boy of his bike at knife-point.

The incident, which has been described as ‘common robbery’ by the police, occurred on 3 September, in Greenhills, Randfontein.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police Spokesperson, the man threatened the boy with a knife before taking his bicycle.

A case was later opened against the man and he was arrested shortly after.

Sergeant Kgomotso Mekgwe, the investigating officer secured a guilty verdict as well as an appropriate sentence through a thorough investigation, which the Randfontein Police management have since applauded.

“This sentence should serve as a deterrent to like-minded criminals. Rather refrain from criminal activity, since crime in Randfontein will surely land you in jail,” said Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, the Randfontein station commander.
