An alternative to fireworks

Spare your pets by making fireless fireworks. Here's how ...

The end of the old year and the beginning of a new one is something to celebrate, but sometimes our celebrations greatly affect our pets.

Fireworks have been proven to make animals anxious. Some are so confused and scared that they run away, and others even get hurt when fireworks are set off – and this is not the only way to celebrate the coming of a New Year.

Learn to make fireless fireworks here:

Fireless fireworks can be created with everyday household equipment. They make no noise and you don’t need a permit to use them, in fact, you can use them inside your home.

• What you need:

• A plastic water bottle (500ml)

• Paper

• A balloon

How to make it:

• Cut off the bottom of the bottle.

• Once the bottom is off, measure the distance from where the bottle curves to the pouring end of the bottle.

• Wrap the paper around the exterior of the bottle (you can make this as festive as you want).

• Cut the paper to the size of the bottle then use an adhesive to stick it to the bottle’s exterior.

• Pull a deflated balloon over the pouring hole of the bottle.

• Add shredded paper – to make confetti – to the bottle. Don’t add too much confetti or it will not pop well.

• Pull the balloon back while firmly holding the bottle, let the balloon go, and pop! Fireless fireworks!
